Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission. Current HIPAA laws also involve other specifics regarding protecting your personal health information (PHI) when using electronic methods, ie: email, credit card payments, etc. Please click on the HIPAA link below for more detailed information. We can also discuss the following exceptions in my office at any time.

Exceptions to Confidentiality include:

  • If there is suspected child / dependent adult / elder abuse, I am required by law to report it to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures that are allowed by law in order to ensure their safety, even if I don't have their permission.
